Kalari Marma Chikitsa is dated centuries old and was emerged to treat the warriors and soldiers preparing them to fight and defend in the wars and also to cure their wounds and injuries. ‘Kalari or Kalaripayattu’ is the martial art form of Kerala. ‘Marma’ means vital spots and ‘Chikitsa’ means treatment. There are 108 Marma points in the body and the Kalari Marma Chikitsa is carried out by specialists who are well learned about these vital spots to heal the body. Here the massage therapist uses his hand and feet to perform the massage applying appropriate pressure on the marma points.

Kalari Marma Chikitsa has its roots in traditional Ayurveda and Sidhaveda systems practised in Southern India. Ayurveda gives emphasis on to the Marma Chikitsa and has clear description about various marmas, their location, number, manipulation etc. This Kalari massage allows vital life energy to flow freely in the body and is done as whole body oil massage to attain strength, flexibility and suppleness for easy twisting and turning. It also improves blood circulation, stimulates Nadis, organs, different body systems and heals various body aches, stiffness and injuries.

Kalari Massage has 3 parts:

  1. Kacha thirummu: for flexibility and strength
  2. Sughathirummu : for relaxation of body and mind
  3. Rakshathirummu : disease oriented massage
