  1. What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the ancient system of holistic medicine originated in the land of India. Now it has gained universal acceptance and is propagated in many countries of the world because of its systematic, scientific and time tested theories and therapies. Ayurveda helps to maintain the health of a healthy person and cures the disease of a diseased person using its herbal remedies and Panchakarma therapies following the laws of nature. It aims to bring equilibrium between body, mind and soul.

 

  1. What are the different aspects of Ayurveda Treatments?

Although Ayurveda deals with each and every aspects of human life such as physical, psychological and social well being, Ayurveda therapeutics broadly can be divided in to 8 branches or specialties (Ashtanga Ayurveda) namely – Kayachikitsa (General Medicine), Balachikitsa & Prasuthitanthra (Paediatrics & Obstetrics- Gynecology), Grahachikitsa ( Psychiatry), Shalakya Tanthra (Ophthalmology & Otorhinolaryngyology), Salyatanthra (Surgical And Osteology), Agadatanthra (Toxicology), Rasayanam (Gerentology), Vajeekarana (Aphrodisiac)

  1. How is Ayurveda treatments carried out in General?

Treatment principals of Ayurveda can be classified in to Shodhana Chikitsa (Purificatory therapy – Panchakarma) and Shamana therapy (palliative and Conservative)

 

  1. What are the Diagnostic methods in Ayurveda?

Ayurveda diagnosis mainly involves two aspects. Firstly, diagnosing the disease pathology by interaction, palpation, percussion and interrogation. The second is to assess the strength of the individual by analyzing the, dosha status, Body constitution, Tissue quality, physique, mental strength, specific adaptability, place of living, climate, digestion, diet intake capacity, exercise capacity and age. Considering these factors treatments are fixed.

 

  1. Why do two people with same illness receive different treatments in Ayurveda?

Ayurveda consider not only the particular disease of a person but the body as a whole. Since any two individuals are different in their physical, psychological and social manners the treatments administered are also different.

 

  1. What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is an Ayurveda Detoxification therapy which helps eliminating even the deep seated toxins from the body tissues. It involves 5 karmas – Nasys, Vamana, Virehana, Vasthi and Rakthamokshana.

 

  1. Who all can do Panchakarma?

Panchakarma can be done by both healthy and diseased person. In a healthy person to maintain their health and by diseased person to cure their disease. It should be done only under the guidance of a qualified Ayurveda physician.

 

  1. Are all the 5 Panchakarma procedures needed for a person or can a common Panchakarma procedure applied to all? 

Ayurveda has a highly individualized approach. So a universal package is not possible. It first makes a complete analyze on individual body constitution and Dosha Status before fixing any therapy. Not all the Panchakarma will be required for a particular person, the most needed will be advised by our physician after a detail consultation. To do all the karmas it takes minimum 8weeks.

 

  1. How is Panchakarma superior to all other therapies? 

Panchakarma eliminates toxins even from the deep seated tissues helping to cure disease from its root in a very natural way using the very natural products. Doing a Panchakarma gives our cells and tissues a new life. It strengthens, refresh and rejuvenates our body, enhances the immunity and brings everything to a balance.

 

  1. Are there any contraindications for Panchakarma?

Panchakarma can be done by both health and diseased person. But of course there are some contraindications like small children, very old people, pregnant women, people who are too weak, and people with very low mental strength are not indicated for all or few of the Panchakarma procedures. It is very important to receive Panchakarma under the supervision of a qualified Ayurveda physician.

 

  1. How about doing Ayurveda treatments during Menstruation?

Menstruation is body’s self cleansing mechanism blessed to a woman. Usually major treatments are not done during these days.

 

  1. How many days or weeks are required to do a Panchakarma?

The number of days required to do a Panchakarma therapy depends on the individual need. It is best decided after consulting with your Physician. However in general it takes 1-2 weeks minimum to 8 weeks.

 

  1. What are the steps involved in doing Panchakarma treatments?

Panchakarma has 3 main steps involved:

  1. Pre Procedure/ Preparatory steps – includes the Snehana and Swedana procedures (preparing the body to receive Panchakarma by internal and external oiling and fomentation techniques which also helps release more deeper toxins). Sneha pana, Abhyanga, various Kizhi, Pizhichil, steam bath etc done to achieve this. This step is done before any 2 Panchakarma. Usually takes 7 days time.
  2. Main procedure – includes the Panchakarma
  3. Post Procedure – includes mainly the dietary regimen, taking rejuvenative medicines and rest.

 

  1. Are there any restrictions when receiving a Panchakarma therapy? 

Panchakarma is aimed at eliminating the toxins from our body and is a very deep process in a very natural way. So it is important we provide our body the required conditions to do its best. Keeping the body and mind light and relaxed is very essential. Good rest, sound sleep, light, warm and healthy food mainly vegetarian is demanded.
